Elly and Hazelnut

Hi, I’m Elly! I am a dog mom, dedicated animal care professional and passionate advocate for animal welfare. My little family currently includes my three dogs, two cats, a leopard gecko and a 20-gallon fresh water fish tank.

My journey in animal care started with my first rescue dog, Hazelnut. When I adopted Hazelnut, she was just 3 months old. I was 18, fresh into adulthood. I had no idea what I was doing, but I knew I loved her instantly. Hazel was energetic, incredibly smart, and had a big personality right from the start. She challenged me in all the best ways and pushed me to become a more patient, thoughtful, and confident caregiver.

We trained together daily, and while there were plenty of growing pains, there were even more wins. Hazel has road-tripped with me across states, been on the best adventures by my side, and keeps me on my toes the entire time. 

Raising Hazel is what sparked my love for animal care and ultimately inspired me to build a career around it. She taught me that great pet care is about connection, consistency, and compassion.

Hazel will always be the heart of this journey.

My Experience

With 5 years of hands-on experience in animal care, I’ve worked with dogs and cats of all ages, breeds, and temperaments. I’ve developed my skills in handling a variety of behaviors, from dogs with training challenges to shy cats. I’m confident in my ability to tackle unique challenges.

My approach focuses on positive reinforcement and making sure that your pets are as comfortable as possible. My experience with reactive dogs has also given me valuable skills in keeping pets safe while ensuring they get the attention they need. In addition to dogs and cats, I’ve worked with reptiles, fish, and other small animals, providing customized care for each species.

Animal Advocacy

My commitment to animal advocacy is a key part of who I am as a caregiver. I strive to be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves, which is why I’m dedicated to supporting Beagle Freedom Project as a volunteer, foster, and adopter. Through my advocacy, I aim to raise awareness about animal welfare issues and contribute to initiatives that promote the well-being of all animals.
